When does race registration close?
Don't be left in the dark! Registration closes at midnight on May 9th, or as soon as the event sells out.
What time is sunset on race day?
Official sunset is 9:26 PM. With an 8:00 PM start, you’ll be running directly into the golden hour. The sun typically dips behind the peaks shortly after the starting whistle, transitioning the sky from gold to twilight as you finish.
What happens if it's cloudy or raining?
The Canmore Sunset Run is an all-weather event. Whether the sky offers a "postcard" sunset, a moody mountain mist, or a refreshing rain shower, the race goes on.
Are strollers or dogs allowed on course?
To ensure a safe experience on the natural, uneven terrain of the river pathways, strollers are not permitted on the race course. Similarly, while leashed dogs are welcome to cheer from the sidelines with spectators, they must stay off the actual race route.
Is "Sunset Chic" neon gear required?
Only if you want to be visible from space! While not mandatory, you are highly encouraged to lean into the vibe with electric pinks, glowing oranges, and radiant yellows.
Where can I park?
Saturday nights in Canmore are popular - carpooling, walking, or biking to the start line at Millenium Park is highly recommended.
If you have to drive, please give yourself lots of extra time to find parking and please be a good neighbor: avoid blocking driveways or parking in "Resident Only" zones. Parking spaces at Millenium Park are limited and will fill quickly - save yourself the time and hassle of fighting gridlock and instead park at one of these free or paid parking locations within walking distance of Millenium Park:
Downtown Canmore Parking Lots: Located along 7th Street and 9th Street - payment is required before 8 pm - approximately a 15 minute walk to Millenium Park
Residential Street Parking: Along 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th Street and 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th Avenue - payment is required in certain locations before 8 pm - approximately a 10 - 20 minute walk to Millenium Park
Elevation Place and gravel lot behind Provincial Building/Save-On Foods 700 Railway Avenue - no payment is required – approximately a 21 minute walk to Millenium Park
Will there be aid stations?
Yes, but stay eco-friendly! This is a cupless event. Refill stations with Precision Hydration and water will be available mid-way through the 5K and 10K. Please carry your own handheld bottle, hydration pack, or reusable cup.
Is there food and swag?
Finish Line: Celebrate with a legendary Crave Cupcake and Non-Alcoholic Raspberry Mojito from Wild Life Distillery.
Medals & Shirts: To keep the event eco-friendly and affordable, finisher medals and Bambū Werx gear are available as optional add-ons during registration. Pre-order your gear by March 20th to guarantee it.
Do I need a headlamp?
Headlamps are recommended. While the Alpenglow is beautiful, the forest sections can get dark once the sun dips below the peaks.
Can I walk the course?
100%. This event is about the experience, not just the clock. Walkers and sunset-seekers are welcome. Note that the event has a 2-hour cut-off, which is plenty of time to enjoy the trails at a comfortable pace.
Are headphones allowed?
For the safety of all participants on the trail, headphones are discouraged. Enjoy the sounds of the river and the cheers of the crowd instead!
